Bahman Rahimi

Bahman Rahimi was born in 1963 in a village near Kurdistan’s Sarvabad. His father was a farmer and his mother was a homemaker. Although they had many children, Bahman’s parents never neglected their children’s religious upbringing. Studied until the third grade of primary school, Bahman failed to continue his studies because he had to walk a long distance to school. As a diligent boy, he started working on the land to help his father. Having been brought up in a religious Muslim family, Bahman always treated his parents with respect and left no stone unturned to fulfill their needs.

He attended Quranic recitation sessions with his father and learned fluent Quran recitation. He got married in 1983 to one of his neighbors and their union was blessed with three children. At the time his first child was born, he started military service away from home, in Mashhad. After two years of military service, he returned to his hometown and after attending some barber training programs started making a living as a barber.

As a generous man, he tried to reach out to the poor as much as he could and refused to charge the poor customers. He was also very observant of his children’s religious and moral upbringing. To educate his children to do good deeds, Bahman refused to educate them directly. Instead, he himself practiced the good deeds and they of course followed suit.

On Thursday, January 3, 2008, he went to the mosque in order to participate in the congregational prayer. The prayer had just been finished. Police officers clashed with two PJAK members on the street. Police officers apprehended one of the terrorists and the other managed to flee. In order to prevent the possibility of leaking information to the Police, the escaping terrorists threw a grenade at the captured one. The grenade exploded and Bahman was hit with a piece of shrapnel. He was transferred to the hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
