He was repeatedly threatened by the Mojahedin-e Khalq terrorist group (aka MEK, MKO, PMOI). Finally, on October 17, 1981, he was martyred by the MEK during the demonstration against the perpetrators of the assassination of Mohammad Ali Rajai and Mohammad Javad Bahonar in Rome.
