Bahrain Rights Center Chief: Iran Exercising Undeniable Right to Self-Defense

The head of the Bahrain International Center for Human Rights, criticizing the American and Zionist regime's war of aggression against Iran, stated: The Islamic Republic of Iran, in the face of the war of aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime, is exercising a legitimate and undeniable right to legitimate defense.

Baqer Darwish, in an exclusive interview with Habilian, said: According to the rules of international law, the right to legitimate defense for states is an inherent right affirmed by the United Nations Charter (Article 51) in the face of military aggression. Accordingly, any country that is subjected to an attack threatening its sovereignty and territorial integrity fundamentally possesses the right to take necessary measures to defend itself. Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran, in the face of the war of aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime, is exercising a legitimate and undeniable right to legitimate defense.

This international activist added: It is incumbent upon the people of the region to show their solidarity in support of Iran and to take a firm stance against this war of aggression, as a clear rejection of the policies of the United States and the Zionist regime aimed at dividing the region and plundering its resources.

Darwish, referring to the illegal presence of American military forces in the Persian Gulf, said: The US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, through its illegitimate presence, is in a situation facing public opposition, and US military bases must also leave the region.

Regarding the crimes and violations committed, especially those affecting civilians, the head of the Bahrain International Center for Human Rights said: Based on the rules of international humanitarian law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, what is taking place constitutes a clear violation of the principle of the prohibition of the use of force, as well as legal obligations concerning the protection of civilians in armed conflicts.

He emphasized: Targeting citizens, including children and students, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure such as residential homes, medical centers, and cultural sites, is a clear example of grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions and constitutes international war crimes that entail responsibility and punishment.
