Four members of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) were killed in an armed clash with Iranian border guards near the western city of Baneh, according to a spokesman for Iran’s Law Enforcement Command.
Mehr News Agency quoted Brigadier General Saeed Montazerolmahdi, spokesman for the Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FARAJA), as saying that security forces had identified and dismantled a team affiliated with PJAK along the border in Baneh County.
He said the operation was carried out through intelligence and operational cooperation between border guards and Iranian intelligence personnel.
According to Montazerolmahdi, security forces had received information indicating that a senior PJAK operative was attempting to enter Iran, prompting an operation to identify and intercept the group.
During surveillance of the area, officers spotted a Samand sedan carrying members of the team. An exchange of gunfire broke out after the vehicle encountered border forces, he said.
Four PJAK members were killed in the clash.
Montazerolmahdi added that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the vehicle and the site of the confrontation, including several handguns, magazines, live ammunition and hand grenades.
