BRUSSELS, Sep. 10 (MNA) –The European Union (EU) will create a general search engine for databases on terrorist activities that will improve the intelligence and security services of the member states, a diplomatic source from the regional bloc said on Friday.
The spokesperson explained that "as part of the measures of the fight against terrorism, the European Agency for the Operative Management of Large Computer Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice is developing a general search engine that links databases already existing".
He also stated that the new system should provide access to the databases of the Schengen Information System (SIS), the Visa Information System (VIS) and the European Information and Travel Authorization System (ETIAS).
In addition, the prototype will allow the consultation of fingerprint specialists of asylum seekers and border offenders entering the Schengen area (Eurodac) and the European Criminal Records Information System (ECRIS).
Several publications point out that this EU initiative is increasingly necessary in view of the increase in terrorist attacks on European countries in recent years.
Even other media said that if this mechanism existed previously, perhaps some attacks could have been avoided.
The reality is that the exchange of information between the security forces and the intelligence services continues to be the great pending task of the EU in the fight against extremist terrorism.
