Iran’s Intelligence Ministry says it has identified and arrested a number of perpetrators behind the assassination of a Sunni cleric in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan. |
In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry said that it has arrested 15 terrorists or terror cells involved in the assassination of Molavi Mostafa Jangi Zehi.
According to the statement, the intelligence obtained by the ministry indicates that the anti-Iran terrorist Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) was involved in planning the attack while deviant elements affiliated with Wahhabi groups carried out the assassination.
It added that certain regional countries, which are backed by the US, UK and Israel, funded the terrorist attack.
The arrests were made after intensive and comprehensive intelligence measures, it said, adding that the ministry will firmly deal with any scenario aimed at deceiving public opinion and creating unrest in the country.
The ministry will not turn a blind eye to the roles of the elements behind the attack and will take appropriate measures when time is right, the statement went on to read.
