Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has accused the European Union of invoking human rights concerns while failing to condemn what Tehran describes as attacks and war crimes committed against Iran.
According to Habilian, citing Defa Press, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei made the remarks in a post on X, responding to comments by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas regarding the bloc’s human rights concerns about Iran.
“Kaja Kallas speaks of the European Union’s ‘human rights concerns’ regarding Iran,” Baghaei wrote.
“How can such professed commitment to human rights be reconciled so easily with providing logistical and technical support for deadly attacks against the Iranian people—attacks that deliberately target civilians and critical national infrastructure?”
Baghaei also criticized the European Union for what he described as its failure to condemn alleged war crimes and for not expressing sympathy for Iranian civilian victims.
He said the EU had remained silent over Iranian children killed by what he described as U.S.-Israeli bombs and missiles, attacks that he alleged had been facilitated by European “logistical and technical support.”
The remarks reflect Tehran’s broader criticism of European governments, which Iranian officials have repeatedly accused of applying double standards in their approach to human rights and the recent conflict involving Iran.
