Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi strongly condemned the Sunday terrorist attack in Kadhmiyah, near the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

A bomber detonated his explosives near a security checkpoint at one of the entrances of the Shiite district of Kadhmiyah in northern Baghdad on Sunday morning, leaving 17 people, mostly civilians, dead. Over 20 others were also wounded in the terrorist attack.

The Daesh Takfiri terror group (also known as ISIL) has claimed responsibility for the fatal incident.

In a statement, Qassemi expressed sympathy with the Iraqi government and nation, particularly the families of the victims of the terrorist attack.

He said the terrorist move “once again highlighted the responsibility of the international community to effectively support the Iraqi government and nation” in their campaign against terrorism and Takfiri groups.
