Terrorism Cost the Islamic Republic of Iran 23,000 Innocent Lives

Over the past four decades, terrorists have taken the lives of more than 23,000 innocent people in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Hojjatoleslam Mohseni Eje’i, Chief Justice of the Islamic Republic of Iran, delivered a speech today on Wednesday, April 23 at the opening ceremony of the 20th Meeting of Chief Justices of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, held in Hangzhou, China.

In his remarks, Iran’s top judicial official stated:
“Terrorism and the actions of terrorist groups pose a threat to international peace and security, including in some member states of this organization. In the past forty years, terrorists have assassinated over 23,000 innocent individuals in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The criminal justice systems of SCO member states must work closely together to pursue and punish these perpetrators and their supporters.”

He also noted that in addition to terrorism, some SCO member states have been subjected to unilateral sanctions by countries that claim to uphold human rights. The imposition and enforcement of these sanctions stand in clear violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and fundamental human rights, including the right to life, education, health, development, and well-being.
