After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Riazi worked as a teacher in Shaft for one year. He joined the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) almost immediately after it was established in 1979 on orders from Ayatollah Khomeini. Later, he was appointed as the IRGC commander for the city of Shaft due to his dominant role and capabilities in the IRGC.
Finally on October 7, 1982, Riazi along with a number of his friends were targeted and assassinated by Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK, a.k.a. MKO and PMOI) terrorists.
