Iran Condemns Daesh, Israeli Brutal Raids on Syria

The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly deplored two separated attacks by the Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL) terror group and the Zionist regime on Syrian civilians and army personal in Homs and Damascus provinces.

At least 53 citizens were killed in the Daesh attack on the Southwest of the town of Al-Sokhna in the desert East of the city of Homs on Friday. The victims included 46 civilians and seven soldiers.

Iran condemned the fatal attack by the Daesh terrorists, stressing that the United States is complicit in the continuation of the acts of terror in the war-ravaged country.

"The current policies and approaches of the American regime indicate the continuation of this regime's double standards in dealing with international issues, including the battle against terrorism," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kana'ani said on Saturday.

He reiterated the importance of providing the Syrian government with effective international support to help it fight the remnants of Daesh and other terrorist groups.

"The US government, as one of the founders and supporters of the Daesh terrorist group and a government that has an illegal military presence in a part of Syria's territory, is complicit in the continuation of the crimes by this group and the continuation of insecurity in Syria," the spokesperson added.

Also on Saturday, at least five people were killed, 15 wounded and several residential buildings damaged in Israeli airstrikes on the Syrian capital Damascus.

In a statement released on Sunday, Kana'ani vehemently denounced the Israeli airstrikes on targets in Damascus and its suburbs.

Pointing to the sequence of the new Israeli air raids and a recent attack carried out by the Daesh terrorist group against the Syrian people, the Iranian diplomat said the two terrorist entities have natural and inherent links and coordination.

"As the Syrian nation is grappling with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, the Zionist regime and the Daesh terrorist group seek to aggravate the pains and miseries of the Syrian people," he deplored.

The spokesman also denounced as shameful the Western governments’ silence on the Israeli regime’s recurrent violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling on the international community and the organizations in charge, specifically the UN Security Council, to show swift, serious and effective reaction to the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression against a UN member state.

Israel has been a key supporter of the terrorist groups during the war and has targeted the positions of the Syrian Army and resistance groups that have been fighting the militants.

Iranian officials have repeatedly denounced the UN Security Council for its silence in the face of the continued Israeli acts of aggression against Syria. They slammed Israeli attacks against civilian population and basic infrastructure in Syria as a flagrant violation of international law and humanitarian rights, and argued that the Security Council’s inaction has emboldened the Tel Aviv regime to broaden the scope of its aggression.

Since 2011, Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy, as a result of which Daesh and other terrorist groups emerged in the country.

Israel frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah which has played a key role in helping the Syrian Army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists.

The Tel Aviv regime rarely comments on its cowardly attacks on Syrian territories, which many see as a knee-jerk reaction to the Syrian government’s success in confronting and decimating terrorism.
