MKO claims responsibility for assassination of Gendarmerie Commander in Mazandaran

The Mujahedeen-e Khalq terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the assassination of Gendarmerie commander of Mazandaran in 1982.

According to Habilian Association database (Specialized Center of Research on the MKO's Crimes), the MKO terrorist group has made the confession in a news published in No. 132 of the Journal of Mujahid, the group’s main press organ during early years of the 80s.

According to this confession, in October 1982 )late Mehr 1361 in Persian calendar) an MKO unit ambushed Colonel Shaghghi Azar, Gendarmerie commander of Mazandaran and some of his forces in Sari-Kiasar Road after a reconnaissance mission and killed most of them.

Reconnaissance and ambush of victims were among the common practices of MKO terrorists in northern forests of Iran. In another example of this kind of assassination, which has been mentioned in this confession, on November 22, 1982, 7 revolutionaries were ambushed in causeways of Ghaemshahr forests. The news states that two of the assassinates were killed in the assault. The assassinates’ identities have not been mentioned in the news.
