Martyr Mohammad Ghanbarian, a defender of the holy shrines, was born on April 25, 1971, in Shahroud, Semnan Province. Two of his brothers, Ahmad and Mahmoud Ghanbarian, were martyred in 1979 and 1982, respectively.
Mohammad was raised in a devout and martyr-nurturing family. After completing high school, he began working at the Saderat Bank branch in Semnan. In 2014, when he learned that enemies were threatening the holy shrines of Hazrat-e Zaynab (peace be upon her) and Hazrat-e Ruqayya (peace be upon her), he requested permission to be deployed to defend them. However, the bank’s management denied his request.
Despite this, after a year or two of persistent efforts, in April 2016, he submitted two months of unpaid leave and set out for Syria.
On April 15, 2016, Ghanbarian was killed in the Khanasir region of Aleppo, Syria, by the terrorist group ISIS.
He was missing for three years, and in March 2019, after his remains were returned to Iran, he was honored with funeral ceremonies in Semnan and Shahroud. According to his wishes, he was laid to rest beside his martyred brothers.
