UN highlights need to provide more support to victims of terrorism

On occasion of the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, the United Nations this Friday highlights the example of those who fight to raise their voices, support their needs and defend their rights.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says that remembering the victims of terrorism and providing them with support is essential for them to rebuild their lives and heal.

Such efforts include working with parliamentarians and governments to draw up and adopt national laws and strategies aimed at helping victims, the secretary-general states.

Although more countries are currently affected by terrorism, the largest number of victims has largely been concentrated in a small number of member states, according to UN statistics.

The UN also promotes a global strategy to confront terrorism, provide support to the victims of those actions, and mobilize the international community.
