Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei

Ayatollah Seyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei was born on April 19, 1939 in Mashhad, Khorasan province. At the time of assassination, He was Tehran Friday prayer leader. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was assassinated on June 27, 1981 after the noon prayers in Abuzar mosque, south of Tehran; the bomb was placed in a tape recorder in front of him. Due to the explosion, he was severely wounded in his right hand, arm and chest. Ayatollah Khamenei was one of the first people who were targeted after Bani Sadr was stripped of his position as president and the commander-in-chief.
