Fighting terrorism, political solution ways out of Syrian crisis

TEHRAN, Oct. 08 (MNA) – Deputy FM Jaberi Ansari underlined that serious fight against terrorism and defining an acceptable political perspective of Syria’s future on the basis of nation’s will are the necessary solutions for the crisis in Syria.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari made the remarks while conferring with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura, who stressed the critical situation in Syria and deemed Iran as an influential player to help settle the crisis.

“UN’s definition of terrorism is clear and according to Security Council resolution ISIL, Jabhat al-Nasra and Al-Qaida-affiliated groups are considered terrorist,” UN envoy said.

Iran’s Deputy FM for Arab-African Affairs Jaberi Ansari, for his part, noted the trilateral political, humanitarian and security dimensions of crisis in Syria, among which “the humanitarian issue is the most urgent in need of serious consideration and solution.”

“Disregarding the need to address the terrorism effectively and not accepting the principle that political solution is the sole way out of the Syrian crisis have led to extension of the conflict and intensification of its humanitarian dimension,” Iranian diplomat emphasized.

Jaberi Ansari underlined that the approach adopted by some key players in Syrian crisis is continuation of militarism to reach some certain political goals, putting emphasis on solving the issue through political approach.

“It is a prerequisite to truly recognize the issue and reach a conceptual agreement by key players on some general principles of the crisis to settle it politically,” he said.

Numerous key players and complicated domestic, regional and international dimensions of the Syrian crisis were named by Jaberi Ansari as factors involved in prolongation of the conflict.

“One of the key articles of the Syrian ceasefire agreement was the separation of armed groups from al-Nasra Front, yet in practice we witnessed the unification of the groups with al-Nusra,” deputy FM said noting the recent ceasefire agreement between Russia and US.

Noting that cooperation and participation of majority of players involved in crisis is an requirement for any kind of solution and agreement, Iranian diplomat added “the key players should reach agreement on basis principles of the conflict; one major issue in this regard is paying serious attention to fight against terrorism and simultaneously presenting an acceptable political perspective of the country’s future, which should be based on the will of the Syrian nation.”
