Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says Iran and Pakistan should improve cooperation to secure their common border against acts of terror.
“The fight against terrorist groups is not an easy task and we believe that Pakistani army and military forces have the necessary will and power to battle terrorists,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Pakistan’s new ambassador to Tehran, Asif Durrani, on Sunday.
In February 2013, Iran and Pakistan signed a security agreement, under which both countries agreed to cooperate in preventing and combating organized crime and fight against terrorism and activities posing a threat to national security of the two counties.
Pointing to cordial and close relations between Iran and Pakistan, the Iranian president said the two countries must implement the agreements they have previously signed in a bid to foster economic cooperation.
Tehran, Islamabad must enhance ties
The Pakistani ambassador, who submitted his credentials to President Rouhani, said for his part that Tehran and Islamabad have maintained strategic relations in hard times.
Durrani added that the two countries must improve their economic and commercial cooperation to the same high level of their political relations.
He also expressed his country’s readiness to boost cooperation with Iran on the campaign against terrorism.
Meanwhile, the Iranian president also on Sunday held separate meetings with new ambassadors of Australia and Belarus to Tehran, Ian Biggs and Yuri Ivanovic Lazarcic, respectively.
The two diplomats also presented their credentials to Rouhani.
