Senior Iranian lawmaker blames growth of terrorism in region on US

The US wrong policies in the region have resulted in the growth of terrorism, a prominent Iranian lawmaker said, and urged concerted regional effort to uproot the inauspicious phenomenon.

“The wrong policies pursued by the US in the region have caused an uncontrollable growth in terrorism and the continuation of the attitude will pose a threat to entire world states,” Chairman of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said at a Sunday meeting with Deputy Chairman of Georgian Parliament Gubaz Sanikidze in Tehran.

He then called on the regional countries to work together to confront terrorism, and stated, “Counter-terrorism efforts should be done with cooperation of all countries of the region seriously and continuously.”

Also at the meeting, Sanikidze underlined the necessity for Iran and Georgia’s joint effort against terrorism.

“Iran’s positive role in the regional developments and in the fight against terrorism could help in the establishment of stability and security," he said.

Earlier and in a meeting with Sanikidze, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani had highlighted the potentials for the expansion of collaborations between Iran and Georgia in various fields, including fossil and renewable energy.

Larijani said ground is set for enhanced bilateral ties in political, economic, trade and scientific fields.
