Bring Beirut blast perpetrators to justice: Iran MP

A senior Iranian lawmaker has called for the immediate identification and punishment of the perpetrators behind the recent terrorist attacks against Iran’s embassy in Beirut.

Spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said members of a delegation sent to Lebanon by the committee requested the immediate identification of the perpetrators behind the attacks in meetings with different Lebanese officials.

“The global arrogance seeks to sow discord in the Muslim community and create crises through terrorist operations, and tries to divert public attention away from the issues of Palestine and al-Aqsa Mosque,” the lawmaker added.

The four-member delegation headed by Mansour Haqiqatpour, another member of the committee met with Lebanon’s Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and the Secretary General of Hezbollah Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Two explosions outside Iran’s diplomatic offices in the southern neighborhood of Janah in Beirut on November 19 killed 25 people, including six Iranians. More than 150 were also injured.

Iran’s Cultural Attaché to Beirut Hojjatoleslam Ebrahim Ansari and the wife of another Iranian diplomat were among the victims.

According to reports, the first explosion took place when a bomber detonated his explosives near the gate of the embassy, and the second blast happened just meters away when a car bomb went off.

An al-Qaeda-linked group, Abdullah Azzam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the twin bombings.
