Born and raised into a religious family in Langroud, Gorgan, where he was surrounded by amazing nature of northern Iran, Alireza Nourani spent his school years there and went to Tehran to further his education at Tehran University of Science and Technology.

In 1971, Nourani married a pious woman, and they had five children, one daughter and 4 sons.

Refused to get a job in government during the Shah's reign, Nourani started teaching in Technical Institutes in the capital city of Tehran.

After the Islamic Revolution, Nourani headed Lavizan Technical Institute which later changed its name to Islamic Revolution Technical Education Center. Meanwhile, he was recruited by the Islamic Revolutionary Headquarters to transform the content of some school textbooks.

In early 1981, Nourani was appointed as the Deputy Governor of Gilan Province for Construction Affairs.

Later that same year in Rasht, the capital city of Gilan province, Alireza Nourani along with Ali Ansari, Gilan Governor, were targeted and shot by Mujahedin-e Khalq terrorists while they were leaving Nourani's home for work in Gilan Governorate building. As a result, Ansari embraced martyrdom on the spot and Nourani suffered severe injuries. Nourani died one day later.
