Date of martyrdom: August 11, 1981

Place of martyrdom: Ferdowsi Avenue, Qazvin, Iran

A friend of Tafreshi’s remarks about his friend’s assassination were as follows:

“It seems like only yesterday, August 11, 1981 at eleven o’clock in the morning when Aziz Morteza Aghayi – who has been later martyred -- called me and said that someone has been assassinated in Ferdowsi Street in Qazvin; after some minutes he called me again from Mellat Hospital (now Martyr Rajayi Hospital) and said that a technical high school identification card has been found in the pocket of the assassinated man. So, he is identified, his name is Sayyed Reza Tafreshi.” “I lost my consciousness and the telephone fell out of my hand. I just remember that I could just take the corner of the table to sit.”

“He was my neighbor. His father had died and his mother was devoted to her only child, and since money was tight she worked by making pastries to make ends meet,” said Tafreshi’s friend.

“He was young, tall, and handsome. In those years (before the Islamic Revolution) he abstained from committing abominable and unlawful acts,” he added.

Later on, Tafreshi’s assassins have been arrested and confessed, “I did not know him at all… our mission was to identify a target for assassination.”

We were two; the one who was riding the bike saw him from afar. He had a beard, and he looked like religious guys. My friend said: He is Hezbollahi (pro-revolution and religious guy), shot him!

“Hence, when we approached him, I fired some bullets at his head when we were 3 to 4 meters away from him,” said Tafreshi’s murderer who was a member of MKO terrorist organization.

Although they managed to escape from the scene after committing the crime, a short time later they were arrested and sentenced to death.
