Britain and the US are main culprits behind anti-Iran MKO terrorists' crimes including killing and torturing innocent people, an Iranian official says.

The British and US governments have always endorsed members of anti-Iranian terror groups and upheld their atrocities against innocent Iranian civilians, said brigadier Muhammad Reza Naghdi, commander of Iran's Basij (volunteer) forces.

The head of Mustaz'afin Basij Organization said the MKO terrorists have martyred more than 12,000 of the best Iranian people during the last three decades.

“Britain and the US are attempting to remove the terrorist tag of the MKO terror group and eliminate them from their blacklist irrespective of the fact that members of MKO terrorist group are commissioning terrorist activities in Iran and elsewhere around the world”, Naghdi added.

The official referred to the lip-service the UK and US governments have been giving to anti-Iran terrorists, saying that “they are commissioning a political game sometimes including MKO terrorists in their blacklist to try to make closer bonds with Iran and again removing their terror tag to exert pressure on Iran to achieve their political objectives”.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast lashed out at the UK and US governments for failing to adhere to their commitments as long as the campaign against terror is concerned.

“All countries and governments have legal commitments to counter and fight against terrorism. We call on the governments of Britain and US to remain committed to those commitments, as support for terrorist groups [including MKO terrorists] runs counter to international regulations,” Mehmanparast told reporters at his weekly press conference in Tehran.

The MKO terrorist group declared war on the nation after the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and founded its base in the neighboring Iraq under executed dictator Saddam.

The group's member fought against Iranian forces shoulder-to-shoulder with Iraqi Ba'athist troops during the 1980-1988 Iraqi-imposed war on Iran.

It has also claimed responsibility for numerous terrorist attacks inside Iran and the assassination of several prominent officials and ordinary civilians over the past three decades.

The Islamic Republic of Iran as well as the international community, excluding a few states, considers the MKO as a terrorist grouplet.
